It’s a good life…and I've enjoyed it all!  I married Tany Talbot on December 21, 1958 after meeting her that summer…she was working for Richard Drug in Pampa.  Joe Tooley and Tom Beard had given me a scholarship to attend pharmacy school.  I followed her to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in '08.

We both became registered pharmacists, and it’s been a good partnership…at home and in business.    Tany is retired and I'm on my way.  My little sister Pat's son is finishing pharmacy school this summer and will be taking over the management of Brown Pharmacy here in Hale Center in the fall.  I had reduced my work days to three days a week about six months ago.

We bought a 40 ft Travel Supreme and plan to make some extended trips to see the parts of the United States which we haven't seen.  We have traveled to Europe eight times, Caribbean many times, Mexico, Hawaii three times, Alaska...so we've decided we need to see more of the Continental U.S.

Holly is our only child.  Her degree is in Finance so, after getting on our knees and begging her to leave a job she loved (business manager for a school district), she became the secretary-treasurer of our corporation and keeps us in line.

She is married to Rick Turner who became the son we didn't have and my bow hunting buddy.  We have hunted wild hogs, deer, and elk in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Missouri … even brought some home.  We also praise our Lord for giving us a son-in-law (from Oklahoma) who is happy to live across the cul-de-sac from us.

Their daughter, Erin, 17, is the light of our lives.  She will be a senior in the fall '07.  Doesn't seem possible.

I got my pilot’s license in the 1960’s and bought my first Bonanza in 1968.  We have two partners in a six-place Bonanza now.  I was a dragster owner/driver in the 1960’s and early 1970’s … winning some national events.  I still love speed.  The picture I sent was from a Father’s Day present … ten laps around Texas Motor Speedway.  My birthday present this year was 15 laps on the road course at the Speedway in a Corvette.

I was mayor of our little hamlet for 18 years until Tany told me I could find another place to live if I ran again!  I'm still involved in civic organizations, including President of the Hale Center Economic Development Corporation.

If you are driving on I-27 between Lubbock and Amarillo, take a few minutes to drive down our little Main Street and view the wonderful murals created by some of our very talented citizens depicting the history of this area from Coronado’s first expedition to the arrival of the train.  I promise you it will be worth the time.  Type “Hale Center, Texas” into your Google search engine and you can view some of them.  Then come by 207 South Avenue J to visit us.

Wow … 50 years … seems only yesterday.  We are really looking forward to seeing everyone in September, 2008.
