The life and times of Dane ‘Corky’ Cambern After graduation from Pampa High and several false
starts at getting a college education, I did a tour of six months in the
army and then started my career in the oilfield.
I worked in Libya as a mud engineer on contract to what is now
Exxon. I then came back and
enrolled in Texas Tech where I met my wife Rhonda from Springfield,
Colorado. She had already
graduated from Tech with a degree in Home Economics and volunteered to put
Hubby thru college. I
graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1969 (finally) and went
to work for Gulf Oil. We quit
them while in Indonesia and returned to the states where I worked for HNG
Oil as their Drilling Manager on the Gulf Coast.
In 1976 I started my own consulting company and have been playing
in the oilfield ever since as a Drilling, Completion and Production
consulting engineer. Rhonda and I have three daughters: Courtney (35) who
has a BA in Art History from
Arizona State University and works for the Wyndam Hotel in Phoenix; Mandi
(34) an MS in Child Psychology from Texas Tech University and was married
to Scott Modderman last October. They
live in Rowlet, Texas where Scott is an engineer for UPS and Mandi works
for Countrywide Mortgage; Catherine
(28) has a BS in Economics from Texas Tech and works for the Covenant
Hospital System in Lubbock. NO
GRANDCHILDREN! Maybe in the near future. The only exciting thing about my career is I have
drilled wells on every continent except Antarctica and Australia.
I have seen most of the world and enjoyed most of the places I have
been. My only real claim to
fame is drilling the first well in the Gulf of Siam, which was for Gulf
Oil and was a dry hole. |
