After
graduating PHS, I went to work on an oil rig. I attended WTSU for
one year. My sister, Martha Robertson, introduced me to my honey,
Carolyn Scarborough, of Amarillo. I then decided to get into
plumbing rather than go to school. Carolyn and I married in May of
1960 when she graduated from AHS.
We have two sons, Tommy (born in 1961) and Mark (born in 1963) while
in Amarillo. Our daughter Leslie was born in Dallas in
1971. Tommy was in an automobile accident in 1989 with a head
injury and still has some medical problems. His house burned down in
the fall of 2002, so he and his children live with us at the moment.
Tommy works as a plumber with my business. He has two children,
Jeramy (19) - a college student and aspiring ROCK musician. Celeste
(16) is a junior in high school. Mark is an architect in Dallas
and is married to Kim. Mark also helps at the family company by
bidding jobs and doing some architectural drawings when needed. His
two boys Jake (11) and Jared (7) are both involved with sports through
their church and community. Leslie manages the office and deals with
all the insurance, payroll and the guys who TRY to give her a hard
time.
When the Amarillo Air Force Base shut down in 1966 we moved to Dallas in
order to find more work. I opened my own plumbing business in 1967
with my partner Merlin Sims (who also was from Amarillo). We built
up a prospering business doing commercial and residential plumbing and
HVAC. I bought Merlin out in 1986 and have been running R & S
Mechanical, Inc. since then. We have had many trials throughout the
years but are still holding through the rough times with God's help.
My wife and I love to travel in our RV whenever opportunity arises.
We have gone through most of the continental US, Canada and Mexico.
Our dream vacation is to go to Alaska.
I have not been to Pampa since 1989 when my mother passed away. We
buried her there with my father who passed away in 1974. My sisters
live in the Amarillo area, and my brothers are in Idaho and
Nacogdoches. We do make it to Amarillo every once in a while to see
my family and Carolyn's mother and sisters. God has blessed us with
many friends and a big family.
I am not sure we will be able to attend the reunion, as the business has
entered the busy season of air conditioning. We hope you all are
doing well and have enjoyed reading all the bios. Take care! |
